Mike Brice of Mike Brice Photography referred this awesome couple to me in order to get some engagement pictures made prior to their wedding this summer. The wedding is taking place in Ohio, but they needed the pictures taken here. We had a good time hanging around downtown Murfreesboro–here are a few of my favorites from last weekend. Thank you guys!

Change

Posted on February 25, 2010

I said on my (now old) blog that a big change was coming.   As you’ve probably noticed, my site has been completely redesigned.  The integration of social media was important for me to connect & share content with my clients.  Also, the ability to post all of the content in one location, rather than multiple sites is very nice.  I already have quite a few events I’ll be doing this spring and summer, so should be no shortage of content to write about.  Additionally, I’ve had a few questions about how I edit my pictures, so I intend to pass on some of what I’ve learned and give an insight into what I see in my mind while I’m taking / editing pictures.

Not all of my content has been transferred over quite yet, but I am excited about the change and wanted to go ahead and make the switch.  By next week, it should be complete though.  I thank everyone for the kind words and compliments you’ve given me and I look forward to serving more of you in the future.  If anything looks weird, doesn’t load, you’re unable to email me, or whatever–please let me know — wprowland@gmail.com is my personal email.  Also–let me know what you think about the switch–I’d love to hear your opinion.

I did two engagement sessions this weekend, and will have those posted soon.  Here’s a preview of the one from last Tuesday evening.

Arlund

Posted on February 20, 2010

I recently had the opportunity to attend a workshop hosted by Chuck Arlund & Stephanie Zettl. Their work is really impressive and their use of off-camera lighting is what really interested me. It was great to meet up with about 15 other photographers and try out some new stuff.

It was an all day thing–a majority of the shooting took place at the Downtown Presbyterian Church in downtown Nashville. The current structure was built in 1848 and it had some incredible places to take pictures on some of the upper floors. Here are a few of my favorites. They all use some kind of off camera lighting w/ a good mix of the soft, ambient light. (seriously) Very little post-processing was done on these–that’s how awesome the light was. The one shot in the red hallway is my favorite and was done by having someone hold a video-light off camera left–it created a different, dramatic look that I really like. For those of you who are photographers: It’s neat b/c the hallway was nearly completely dark, and the video-light allowed me to shoot it at 1/30 f/2.8 400iso. I could have upped the iso or opened up my aperature (or both), for an even faster shutter speed, but I rolled with it. Please let me know what you think–I’m kind of new to off camera lighting so I’m always up for learning from those who have more experience.

Superbowl Ads

Posted on February 19, 2010

Was hoping Peyton Manning could pull out a miracle last night, but it didn’t happen. It was good for NoLA that the Saints won, though. The commercials in my opinion weren’t as good as they usually are. The Betty White snickers commercial was hilarious. The google ad was one of the most creative ads I’ve seen in a while–in under a minute they told a whole story and effectively sold their product. Good stuff.

Susie & Mitchell are getting married this spring and decided it would be cool to have some engagement pictures taken before the big day. We had a great time taking a few pictures on the pedestrian bridge in downtown Nashville (next to LP Field for you Titans fans) and finished off the day by visiting the Steeplechase in Belle Meade. The very first image is one of my favorite pictures ever.

I’m trying a little bit of a different format on this blog post–instead of a pop-up window, you have to actually scroll through the pictures to see them. If you haven’t seen the pop-up format,  click on any picture in the previous posts or check out one of my latest posts on the snow that blew through here last week.  Let me know what you think.
