Bowling Green Wedding: Katie + Joey

Posted on June 21, 2010

Katie and Joey recently had their wedding at the historic L&N depot in Bowling Green, KY. It was a gorgeous day, and everything down to the last detail was planned perfectly (coloring books for the children? Brilliant!). They broke with tradition and wanted to have pictures done together before the ceremony–I don’t think I’ll ever forget the look on Joey’s face when he viewed his gorgeous fiance in her wedding dress for the first time. We managed to sneak away at some point during the reception as the sun was setting on their first evening as husband and wife – the light truly was amazing and helped make for some memorable images. Congratulations and I wish you both the best on your move to Ohio!

Special thanks to Wes Brown, a KY native who assisted & helped me document this day.

Awesome wedding this past weekend in Bowling Green, KY. I’ve only had a chance to look through some of their wedding photographs, but here’s one that I absolutely love. Full post on their wedding day to follow.

A Charlotte Family: Melanie + Adam

Posted on June 11, 2010

First, refer to my previous post on color in firefox.  As mentioned before, Melanie and Adam do not live in Nashville, but will getting married here later this year. This was kind of a combination engagement / family shoot, and I was thrilled to include their two gorgeous girls in these pictures as I typically don’t get to meet someone’s family until the day of the wedding. If the details of their planning are any indication (think adjusting pH of the soil so the hydrangeas will all be a certain shade of blue!!)–their wedding will be amazing.

We met briefly in Green Hills to talk about the details of their day, and then spent a couple of hours in Belle Meade prior to them returning to Charlotte, NC. Though you can’t tell, it was one of the hottest spring days on record in Nashville. These are some of my favorites–I’m looking forward to their wedding!

Why Firefox

Posted on June 11, 2010

I have a really good reason for pushing firefox (besides the fact it’s just awesome)– I want you to see the true representation of my intent with every image I post.  Look at the image from the last post:

Nashville comparison

On the left is what you would see if you viewed my site in internet explorer.  On the right is the same image as seen in firefox, and other color managed browsers.  Amazing isn’t it? Why the difference? It has to do with how the different browsers interpret color – and it is INCREDIBLY frustrating for designers, photographers, and many other folks who want their work seen as is, not washed out or changed.  There are many instances where this doesn’t matter – black and white images for example….BUT it does matter especially when you are looking at greens, pinks, reds and a ton of other colors (just look at the pinks and greens in this image alone).

Some may prefer the image on the left, but the one on the right is how I processed the image and what I wanted it to look like—to me that’s how that moment really existed.  Viewed alone, you would never really know the difference unless you knew what the real image looked like….the image on the left would be ‘close enough’….but close enough isn’t good enough for me.

One more example:

Capture2

That is from a  photographer named Jonas Peterson – one of my favorite photographers in the entire world.  I can not vouch for his intent, but I would have to lean towards the right image, as seen in a color managed browser.

Download firefox and see the world how it was meant to be seen.
