Why Firefox

Posted on June 11, 2010

I have a really good reason for pushing firefox (besides the fact it’s just awesome)– I want you to see the true representation of my intent with every image I post.  Look at the image from the last post:

Nashvillecomparison Why Firefox

On the left is what you would see if you viewed my site in internet explorer.  On the right is the same image as seen in firefox, and other color managed browsers.  Amazing isn’t it? Why the difference? It has to do with how the different browsers interpret color – and it is INCREDIBLY frustrating for designers, photographers, and many other folks who want their work seen as is, not washed out or changed.  There are many instances where this doesn’t matter – black and white images for example….BUT it does matter especially when you are looking at greens, pinks, reds and a ton of other colors (just look at the pinks and greens in this image alone).

Some may prefer the image on the left, but the one on the right is how I processed the image and what I wanted it to look like—to me that’s how that moment really existed.  Viewed alone, you would never really know the difference unless you knew what the real image looked like….the image on the left would be ‘close enough’….but close enough isn’t good enough for me.

One more example:

Capture2 Why Firefox

That is from a  photographer named Jonas Peterson – one of my favorite photographers in the entire world.  I can not vouch for his intent, but I would have to lean towards the right image, as seen in a color managed browser.

Download firefox and see the world how it was meant to be seen.
