Nashville Engagement Photography: Amanda + Jason

I met an awesome couple last Saturday afternoon to do their engagement pictures. We spent several hours literally chasing the light around the city of Nashville on what was one of the nicest days yet this winter. Even after the sun went down we were fortuitous enough to have a such a great spot overlooking the city. Their wedding will be taking place soon in Austin, TX and I imagine it will be amazing. Congratulations Amanda and Jason!

Award Winning Nashville Wedding Photographer

I want to thank my previous clients for nominating me to receive the Bride’s Choice Award for 2011!

From Wedding Wire’s website: “Paul Rowland Photography stands among the top five percent of wedding professionals in the WeddingWire community, representing quality and service excellence within the wedding industry. Awards were given to the top wedding professionals across 20 service categories, from wedding venues to wedding photographers, and were based on the overall professional achievements throughout the past year.”

I had the privilege of serving as the wedding photographer for so many wonderful couples last year and am very thankful they liked my work enough to nominate me for this award.  I’m really looking forward to this year’s weddings — the first of which is coming at the beginning of March.

Preview — Nashville Engagement: Amanda + Jason

Awesome picture from tonight’s engagement session (maybe even glorious as Jason would say). Downtown Nashville is clearly visible in the background.
More to come of this awesome couple.

Deepa - AMAZING! I love this picture

Nashville Engagement: Jewel + Steven

I spent a few hours on the 2nd to last day of 2010 with this wonderful couple. All of their engagement pictures were done in Percy Warner Park, a great spot just south of downtown Nashville. I think what I love most about it is you can wind up somewhere and not see anyone for hours. As I mentioned in the preview post, it had been kind of cold and overcast for at least a week, so we were thrilled to actually see the sun. Their wedding will take place later this year in Nashville – something I’m really looking forward to. Congratulations Jewel and Steven!

sarah der - !!!!!!!
What. A. Ridiculously. Pretty. Couple. I started to choose favorites, but once I had gotten to 2, 4, 10, 12, 13…I just stopped. They are really lovely. The light is so soft and golden, and there is so much joy between the two of them. Also, I just love that B+W where she is laughing and his back is to the camera, but he’s holding her up and her arms are around him. This series tells such a lovely and intimate story of the couple.

Jeremy - beautiful location and great backlight with the setting sun. They look very comfortable and happy! Great job on the pictures.

Jacob Lacey - what an amazing couple. your b/w’s are awesome!

Milena Dekic - Paul, these are amazing, I’m sure that Jewel and Steven are in love with them as much as they’re in love with each other. You’ve captured such sweet and tender moments, and that last shot just blows me away. Love your work!

Marianne Wilson - Beautiful couple, great locations, and wonderfully captured. They really look so in love and just lovely all around.

Timothy Kaldas - Beautiful work Paul. I love your navigation of light in this set and your tilt/shift work was great; really emphasized their smiles in one of the black and whites in the middle.

Sally - Oh, I LOVE these!!! Stunning couple, amazing locations, and the winter sunlight is so soft and pretty. Really beautiful work!!

Kyle - You captured so many very natural interactions between them. That’s what I love, when a session doesn’t feel at all forced.

Soobum Im - The couple look so happy. Great images.

Josh - Great pictures of a great looking couple in a wonderful location.

Alex Calhoun - These pictures are absolutely gorgeous!! I love you Jewel and Junior!! Congratulations :]

Vanderbilt vs Georgia: SEC Basketball

I don’t post a lot of personal work on here (especially if it’s not related to wedding photography in some way), but it’s not everyday you get to be a photographer on the sidelines of an SEC basketball game. This was the first sporting event where I got press credentials to shoot on the sidelines. I’ll get to do it again this Wednesday when Vanderbilt plays Ole Miss. This sequence is from last Wednesday; Jeff Taylor’s monster dunk against Georgia – it was ESPN’s #1 play of the day. I was situated to the left of the goal, and had a great angle to get these shots as he threw the ball down.

Nashville Engagement Photography: Callie + Johnny

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Callie and Johnny for their engagement session in downtown Nashville. Johnny is currently deployed overseas, but they will be getting married later this year in Lawrence, Kansas. These are just a few of my favorites from the 2nd to last engagement of 2010 – the pictures with the city lights in the background are among my favorite images of the entire year. I hope you enjoy them – Congratulations Callie and Johnny!

Leo Druker - Outstanding! Love the lighting and the chemistry you’ve captured with these two. 6th one from the bottom is my favorite, but the entire set is stunning.

Albert Palmer - Okay, 6th one up from the bottom is a shocker! The one where they are almost kissing. That is the moment. So awesome.

Natalie - I love how you’ve captured their personalities in these images! Such a cute couple too!

Amanda Basteen - Love the black and white photos! Great set!!

Kellee - A really beautiful series. I love the light!!

Brian Kraft - Awesome stuff! The running one is very cool. They all are!

alexbee - yup.. like everyone else said, 6th one from bottom is freakin awesome. makes my heart skip a beat!

otto - awsomeness man! love the feel of this shoot with the pastel colors and b&w’s…

One

My favorite moment from 2010 was at some point during the reception when Megan and Brad managed to sneak away for a little alone time (their wedding was at the always gorgeous Cedarwood Mansion).

It was incredibly difficult to find what image I wanted to post, as I took upwards of 20,000 pictures this year. I am thankful and blessed to have been the wedding photographer for so many amazing couples. I’m really looking forward to 2011 – I already have two winter engagement sessions to share and a wedding coming up as early as March.

Happy New Year!

Josh - Strong #1 shot Paul. Love it.

Megan - yippeee!!! Magical even!!

Four

As I mentioned in this post, I’m sharing five of my favorite moments from 2010. This one is from Kathryn and Gavin’s gorgeous October wedding at the Nashville zoo. This was during their “first-look”, just after Gavin viewed his beautiful bride in her dress for the first time. Two pictures are included because I loved them both so much and they give a better sense of what that moment was like.
