Kathryn and Gavin’s wedding was on a Saturday several weeks ago. Though it was most definitely a fall wedding, it was just as warm as some of the summer weddings I’ve photographed earlier this year. With the setting sun though, came cooler temperatures – which made for an incredibly gorgeous evening ceremony. I had an extremely difficult time in narrowing down the images to just my 50-60 favorites for this post – I can tell you this though: the happiness and love these two share for each other was apparent during the whole day (Look at how Kathryn is looking at Gavin just before the kiss!). What follows are some of my favorite moments from throughout the day. I’m thankful to have to been able to document this very special day for this awesome couple – congratulations Kathryn and Gavin!
Quick one from this past weekend’s engagement session. This was kind of a spur of the moment kind of thing – but I’m thrilled they found me as their engagement photographer. Ashley and Jeff will be getting married next year – in the meantime, they’re planning their move to Delaware. For you photography folks, this is 35 images @ 85/1.4 stitched together.
I am loving this! 35 images?! so rad!
Those Nashville trees are beautiful and this photo is dreamy. =)
With only three scheduled weddings remaining for this year, more and more I will have the chance to show some of the other non- wedding photography work I’ve been doing. There is also a big announcement for brides getting married next year that I will be making on my blog (hopefully by the end of next week) – so keep checking back.
For now, here’s one of my favorites from a recent session for Austin’s senior pictures. We met just off the square in Murfreesboro last week and had a chance to produce some images that are a little different (and way more awesome) than typical senior portraits. Enjoy!
Awesome portrait, the pose is very heroic! Great light to by the way!
Just finished downloading all of the images from tonight’s wedding at the Nashville Zoo. As you can probably tell, it was a gorgeous evening — I’m really looking forward to sharing the rest of this wonderful wedding with you in the coming weeks!
Hi Paul, I absolutely adore this picture! I have shown it to a lot of my friends, and they all agree how unique it is. Glad the house had a balcony. Thank you for being such a wonderful sport. I’ve never seen a photographer, and assistant, work so very hard to make a brides dream come true! As you well know, when all is said and done, regardless of the memories of having had a great time, it will be the pictures that will continue to “speak volumes,” for many years to come. I’m looking forward to more photographs of Kathryn and Gavin’s wedding.
Thank you, and may God bless you and yours,
Kat Nikkel
I drove to Bowling Green, KY for the second time this year – this time for the engagement of Rebekah and Jason. They’ll be getting married next year – and their wedding is something I’m really looking forward to. Here are a few of my favorites from one of the last hot summer evenings left this year. Congratulations Rebekah and Jason – I can’t wait until your wedding!
Fantastic shots – love your use of light!
Very nice, subtle lens flare Paul! I really, really love the second to last shot.
Such a wide range of style yet they all feel connected. Great work.
#5 is my fave, nice t/s work!!!
Oh my god the one with just their legs! Perhaps not the most ‘practical’ photo but I love it. <3
Great job rockin’ the tilt-shift. Love it!
Great work. I especially like your black and whites!
Very solid work here Paul. I love the silhouette.
Awesome engagement session Paul. I dig the flash shot that you’ve got pumped out there!
What an adorable couple! My favorite is the second from the last — gorgeous lighting and great moment.
Love this entire set, but the light in that first image is just pure gold! Makes me long for summer :-)
LOVE the one with the legs sticking out from behind the wall. And the sunset/nighttime shots are superb.
Paul, beautiful shots here. I love the use of the tilt-shift and the shot just showing their legs beyond the brick wall is fantastic.
Oh, I adore those last two shots! Fabulous!!
I first met Melanie and Adam earlier this year for their engagement session — and I’ve been looking forward to their wedding ever since. This awesome couple, along with their two beautiful daughters, celebrated with family and friends at their grandparent’s home in Green Hills. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect evening or setting — a view that overlooked the rolling hills just south of downtown Nashville.
There were many wonderful and memorable moments throughout the day, but the playing of “I Feel Good” at the conclusion of the ceremony was especially great (just look at Adam’s father / best man’s reaction). You can also probably see that people at the reception had an exceptionally good time. I hope you enjoy some of my favorite images from their wedding. Please view the slideshow at the end of the post for a few more of my favorites. Congratulations Melanie and Adam – thank you for letting me be a part of your day!

Your work is so understatedly fabulous! Wonderful.
I really enjoyed being able to document all of these wonderful people spending time together – especially the moments when everyone took turns toasting the bride and groom. The thoughts and emotions that were shared were awesome. Here are a few of my favorite images from Melanie and Adam’s rehearsal dinner at Macke’s in Green Hills. I’m still working on processing the images from their wedding – something I hope to have up in the next week, but for now I hope you’ll enjoy seeing this part of their celebration with family and friends. Thank you, Melanie & Adam, for letting me join you on this evening!
These are great.Thank you so much for capturing our weekend and allowing us to remember the details forever.
Some great emotion captured here! Nice work.
Great photos, Paul! The last one if my favourite. I can’t wait to see the photos from the actual wedding!

Awesome set here!! I’ve never done any rehearsal dinner coverage, but these photos might change my mind about that.
Wonderful storytelling. I dig your black and whites.
Beautiful set.I love all the expressions you captured.
Really nice capture of the evening and love the toasts!
The location shots are great!
Delicious slices of story-telling. This is going to be one fantastically photographed wedding!
Lovely images! Looks like a lovely evening too!
Epic. I love your perspective.
So natural and beautiful. Well done!
This was the view as I arrived at Macke’s in Green Hills to photograph the rehearsal dinner for Melanie and Adam – the sunlight seemed to come from everywhere as it reflected off various parts of the building. If tonight was any indication, Sunday’s gathering of friends and family for Melanie and Adam’s wedding will be amazing. More to come from their rehearsal dinner and tomorrow’s wedding.
The first image below was the first sunset of the new month as seen from my parent’s front yard – a site I was used to seeing quite often prior to leaving for college. The rest were taken in front / behind my own house in Nashville– all with my new 45 mm tilt-shift lens (a lens capable of shifting perspective). I included an image of the infamous birdhouse because there’s a story behind it.
Lauren and I had just purchased our house in Nashville, and were looking for something to add to the fence in our backyard. Lauren found the birdhouse, constructed out of old building materials, at a local art festival and brought it home. While mounting it to the fence, I dropped one of the screws, allowing just enough time for the wind to knock the birdhouse off the mounting brackets. The rusted metal roof easily sliced the top of my hand open, resulting in a trip to the ER and 8 stitches. My wife loves that birdhouse and I’ll never forget that trip to the ER – which means it will go with us whenever we decide to move. I hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend!
You may remember Katie and Joey’s Bowling Green wedding at the Historic L&N Depot from earlier this year. Well, the wonderful folks at DIY bride decided to feature my wedding photography on their blog today – something I consider an honor due to the fact they have readers from all over the world. It also showcases the hard work and energy Katie put into creating the details that helped make her wedding day truly perfect. Please check out the DIY post with the images they selected of this awesome couple here.
That’s awesome Paul! I look forward to you doing our wedding!
That’s awesome, Paul! Good work!
This has most likely been the longest I’ve gone without posting since the site redesign. There are some good reasons for that of course. I’ve been extremely busy with multiple projects and some very exciting things that I will be able to share later on this week. For now I wanted to share a previously unpublished image from Guy and Kelsey’s engagement session at the Factory in Franklin (these were actually taken at a nearby ‘grassy knoll’). The first one you’ve already seen, but I felt like sharing it again as it is one of my favorite black and white images ever. The 2nd one is 7 exposures, taken shortly after the first picture, and is another favorite though it was not in the original post. More to come later this week – I hope everyone has a good Monday!
Joshua Gull - The Zoo wedding! I’ve been waiting on this one. Great job Paul! You do the light flare thing especially well.
